Quick change for street furniture
        
         If the foundation of a street pole was separate      from the part above ground, the upper part could be replaced without      having to touch the part buried beneath the surface. The Permanent      Underground Base, or PUB, is a galvanised steel cylinder, fixed      permanently into a conventional concrete foundation. Inside it, a polymer      sleeve can receive the pole and hold it tight in a lubricated friction      grip. If the pole has to be replaced, it can be jacked out in a matter of      a few minutes and a new one dropped in. The system is suitable for road      signs, signals and barriers of all kinds and has variants that allow      electrical wiring, with access for maintenance. As well as avoiding      disruption, this quick replacement also saves the high cost of bringing in      heavy equipment, so the system can be self-financing.
